PS VR2 price: is the PlayStation VR2 too expensive or not? (XGN editorial)
The PSVR2 price is known. The PlayStation VR2 will cost just under 600 euros, even more than the PlayStation 5 itself. We presented to the editors how we view the price tag. Are they going to buy one or not?
The average VR game is pretty mediocre and there are very few VR games that are really worth it. I’m not going to pay $600 for that. There is actually no amount that I would pay for it, but 600 is very big. Also viewed a little less from my own lack of enthusiasm, I can hardly believe that these VR glasses cost more than the console it belongs to. Not because I expect virtual reality to be cheap, but because I see PSVR2 as an accessory for the console and an accessory in my opinion should not be more expensive than the console itself. So no, I’m not going to buy PS VR2 and I don’t think the price is right. – Marcus
I have no problem with the price of the PS VR2 and will definitely get it. The PlayStation VR dates from 2016 already cost 400 euros. That was without extras or additional controllers. We had to rely on the inaccurate and virtually unavailable PS Moves and PS Camera, which couldn’t even be linked to the PS5 without tools.
Can live with the PSVR2 price
Now we are eight years later and a huge inflation. The PS VR2 makes a huge step forward in every area, in terms of image, simplicity, weight and mechanics. The cable hasn’t gone away, but has become a lot thinner and simpler and the glasses come with two dedicated controllers, which should make the whole experience a lot more convenient and accurate. So no, I’m definitely not at that price. What I do hope is that Sony will support the PS VR2 better with more games and applications. Encourage developers to make their games compatible with the PSVR2 and add VR games to PS Plus. This makes the new PS VR2 really fiercely attractive. – Chris
PlayStation VR price 2 is too high
I think the price is too high. Yes, there are also other VR glasses that are much more expensive, but they are also really made for a niche audience. With the PS VR2, the hope was that Sony could make virtual reality a little more mainstream by making it accessible to a wider audience. But putting a price tag on it higher than the PlayStation 5 itself is way too expensive. And then we also have to wait and see whether the promised VR games are really worth playing. I’m definitely not going to buy a PS VR2. – Ralph
Although I think it’s great to see that a big step forward is being made with the PS VR2, the step in price that is being made is far too big. The glasses will cost more than the console itself, which I actually think is too expensive. The glasses can do more and this time you get special controllers, but that doesn’t determine the shocking price in my eyes. Okay, there’s still a chip shortage and a lot of inflation, but that still doesn’t justify the price. Let alone that you have to register to be able to buy those glasses. So I’m definitely not going to buy the PS VR2 in the beginning and probably not later either.
Curious about the PSVR2, now that the price is still …
I’m curious to see how the PS VR2 will be adopted. The previous PlayStation VR glasses were not really widely represented. Not many games came out in the last six years and what came out was either short or not really interesting. This time 11 games have already been announced, but whether a lot will come out after that remains to be seen. – Theo
