Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Directorate General of Housing of the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry will seek to address eight focus areas related to housing this year to encourage the provision of decent housing for the community.

“There are eight focus areas in housing that will be implemented by the Directorate General of Housing of the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry this year,” the ministry’s director general of housing, Iwan Suprijanto, said in a statement issued here on Friday.

Apart from the provision of decent housing, the resolution of the strategic issues is also aimed at tackling the housing backlog in Indonesia, Suprijanto explained.

The first focus area in the housing sector that requires special attention involves support for the implementation of thematic activities and the 2023 National Directive.

The second focus area is related to operation, maintenance, optimization, and rehabilitation, particularly the maintenance and rehabilitation of assets that have not been handed over to regional governments and related ministries/agencies.

The third focus area covers stunting and extreme poverty handling.

The fourth one is related to support for the management of slums through integrated regional management involving the unification of the housing and human settlement programs. Meanwhile, the fifth focus area refers to support for the provision of housing in the new capital city (IKN), Nusantara.

The next issue involves the handling of special houses for disaster-affected people, as well as for housing provided under government programs and for residents in border areas and underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

The seventh focus area involves support for the development of priority areas in the field of public works and public housing to support the 2020–2024 Medium-Term National Development Plan (RPJMN) and the National Directive targets.

The last one concerns the achievement of the One Thousand Houses Program (PSR).

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has allocated a budget of Rp6.98 trillion for the housing sector this year.

According to Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, the budget already includes an allocation of Rp540 billion to support the construction of the new capital, Nusantara.

Further, as much as Rp2 trillion of the Rp6.98 trillion budget has been allotted for the construction of 5,379 units of flats.
