LAGOS, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) — The Nigerian police have killed three gunmen and arrested two others after repelling their attack on an office building of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the southern state of Imo, said the police on Monday.

Mohammed Barde, commissioner of police in Imo State, told media in the state capital Owerri, unidentified gunmen threw gasoline bombs and dynamite into the INEC office in Owerri in the early hours of Monday, razing part of the building.

A police team on patrol engaged the gunmen and killed three of them while arresting two others with bullet wounds, said Barde.

An INEC statement on Monday also confirmed the attack on its office in Owerri, saying the attack affected part of the building, but no “critical election material was destroyed” due to the prompt response of security operatives who prevented further damage to the building.wesdfgwe sdfxhg wrsght234wesg
