Summer Walker‘s music has earned praise, Platinum plaques, Billboard placements and a few awards, but the singer has yet to nab a Grammy. Speaking as a guest on Yung Miami‘s Caresha Please podcast, she shared her thoughts on not receiving nominations for any of her albums.
“Honestly, both albums, Over It and Still Over It, really did the numbers. I don’t know. I feel like I got played. The numbers was there. The fans was there. When I pop out for a show, sold out every time,” said Summer.
“I don’t f******* know why they played me. I do know why, but I ain’t gonna go into it,” she continued. “But it’s OK. The love is there, and the money is there. So it’s good.”
Summer’s sentiments align with previous tweets in which she aired out her grievances regarding the nominations. “And as for the Grammys for a 2nd time, the math is literally not mathing. I was gone post some numbers, but it’s ok. At least the streets f*** with me,” she tweeted in November. “Y’all always pack out every show and support every time I drop. So, thanks for the love I do receive.”
Despite the snubs, Summer has continued on, recently releasing her Clear 2:Soft Life EP. The EP starts with an intro by J. Cole, which came about because the stars were unable to meet and do an actual song.
“He did end up sending me something called ‘Audio Hug.’ And he was just like … it’s so sweet,” Summer said. “I cried when I heard it. He was just, like, being hella sweet and just saying that he sees all the s*** that I went through and if I ever need to call him for anything … it was just cool.”
