Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins always envisioned his daughter Heavenly Joy on his new single “Come Together.”
Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Jerkins used social apps like Zoom and FaceTime to record the uplifting single to benefit COVID-19 relief. He detailed being “mindblown” at the incredible styles of singing on the track, bringing together “all the right herbs and all the right sauces to make the perfect soup.”
That soup always included his 10-year-old daughter Heavenly Joy, who appeared on NBC’s America’s Got Talent and warmed hearts singing “Let There Be Peace on Earth” on Little Big Shots.
“I couldn’t finish it without her, to be honest, like, she’s everything to me,” he tells ABC Audio. “She’s on the beginning and she’s also at the end of the bridge,”
“She’s holding her own,” he continues. “She’s standing up with some incredible talent and she held her own so I’m really proud of her.”
Jerkins released the single last week, teaming up with gospel supergroup The Good News featuring gospel greats Mary Mary, Lecrae, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp, mother-daughter duo Karen Clark Sheard, and Kierra Sheard, his wife Joy Enriquez and more.
