Keep Scarface in your prayers. The former Geto Boys rapper revealed he’s currently on dialysis due to kidney failure, resulting from his COVID-19 diagnosis last month.
The 49-year-old Houston rap legend, born Terrence Jordan, gave Geto Boys cohort Willie D a health update during a Zoom chat recently uploaded to YouTube. He says he’s “glad to be alive” after just getting out of the hospital last Monday, April 20, showing Willie his dialysis port.
“I fought the COVID double bilateral pneumonia in both lungs and kidney failure in my house,” Scarface details in the beginning of the video, adding he goes to dialysis four times a week for three hours a day. Per his doctors’ orders, he also has to make changes to his diet, since his initial coronavirus diagnosis on March 26, detailing difficulty eating, sleeping, breathing, and having legs that “feel like bags of water.”
“It was the worst time of my life,” Scarface said, explaining he didn’t want to be on a ventilator at a “quarantined hospital” alone, as opposed to being at home. He now has a bigger appreciation to “live life,” being that he was “hanging on that string of death.”
Scarface optimistically closed the video by playing his guitar and mentioning future endeavors, such as a Geto Boys podcast and a grand finale tour. He also talked about the virus’ impact on black communities, warning states like Georgia and Texas about reopening too early.
