Kehlani has released her new video for “Can I,” from her number-one album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.
The video ends with a special PSA by Kehlani’s friend and activist, Da’Shaun Harrison. “It is a legitimate form of labor that must be decriminalized so as to function as a safe form of work for all sex workers,” Harrison writes. “It is often the lives and livelihoods of those who do street-level work that is impacted by criminalizing policies and cultural stigmatization.”
“Can I” features Tory Lanez, though he doesn’t appear in the video. Kehlani has since unfollowed Tory on Instagram following his shooting incident earlier this month, which led to Megan Thee Stallion being shot in both feet.
Ahead of the video’s release, Kehlani noted that “Can I” would be featured on the forthcoming deluxe edition of her album, with a “new verse.”
“Full transparency, [because] I believe in that with my following, his verse is still on the song, the video is solo. new verse on the deluxe,” she tweeted, apparently referring to Lanez. “The album came out months ago I can’t remove it; [it] doesn’t work like that. [I] can only move forward.”
Fans on social media are hoping the new verse will be from the likes of Chris Brown or Brent Fiayaz.
