Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight is highly regarded as one of the best superhero movies of all time — if not the best — and receives a lot of praise for Heath Ledger’s generational performance as the Joker. While Ledger’s scene-stealing performance as the Joker elevates the movie, it also takes the spotlight away from Christian Bale’s Batman. Bale’s portrayal of the character is one of the best in live-action, with the actor perfectly balancing Batman’s broodier side and Bruce Wayne’s playboy persona.

Still, the actor played second fiddle to Ledger’s acting masterclass in The Dark Knight. The movie’s biggest problem is its focus being the Joker rather than Batman. Reeves has confirmed that The Batman 2 will not face that same problem. Speaking with Collider, the director revealed that his goal continues to be having Pattinson’s Batman as the story’s emotional center. Reeves confirmed he is against villains coming in and taking over the movie, “and then Batman takes a backseat sort of character-wise.” Based on the director’s words, The Batman 2 will avoid The Dark Knight‘s biggest problem.

The Batman 2 Is Right To Keep The Same Focus

Reeves is doing the right thing by keeping The Batman 2‘s focus on Pattinson’s Dark Knight. The Batman featured a version of the hero that was consumed by vengeance, with Bruce Wayne being lost amid his superhero persona. With the movie’s ending allowing Batman to become a symbol of hope, The Batman 2 can explore a new side of the character by featuring Pattinson’s Bruce more prominently. The actor gave a memorable Batman performances in The Batman. If the sequel allows Pattinson to explore more of the character, then The Batman – Part II has a chance of cementing the actor as the best portrayal of the character in live-action.
