Key ‘X-Men’ Characters Rumored To Return

Deadpool 3 is set to bring Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth on a collision course with the most iconic member of Fox’s mutant roster with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine. A new rumor states that Wolverine won’t be the only member of the iconic X-Men cast to return in the new film.

Speculation that other mutants besides Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was kickstarted over the weekend when Halle Berry posted a picture on Instagram of her hair dyed silver, matching the iconic look of her character Storm from the X-Men films. This prompted leaker CanWeGetSomeToast to confirm Storm’s appearance in the film, along with James Marsden returning as Cyclops and Famke Jannsen as Jean Grey.

While most of Fox’s X-Men films would’ve been more aptly named “Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men,” James Marsden, Famke Jannsen, and Halle Berry served as the three most prominent actors alongside Hugh Jackman during the original trilogy. Given Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey are also some of the biggest X-Men names outside of Wolverine, it’s no shock they were chosen to return above any other characters for Deadpool 3.

It’s currently unclear what role James Marsden, Famke Jannsen and Halle Berry will have in Deadpool 3 if they do appear. However, given the film is marketed primarily as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine meeting Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, and there are at least a dozen other actors poised to have a role in the film, it’s not likely the X-Men actors will be anything more than a cameo.

Who else is attached to the Deadpool threequel?

Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 after working with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. The upcoming Marvel Studios project also marks a reunion between Levy and Hugh Jackman as the two worked together on Real Steel.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are developing the Deadpool 3 script after penning the first two installments in the series. The Molyneux sisters worked on a previous draft of the project.
