Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ Might Be Close to 3 Hours — World of Reel

Written by on January 30, 2023

Christopher Nolan is known to have lengthy films in his filmography, with his “Interstellar (169 minutes) being the record-holder, so it’s no surprise he will again be working on an epic scale with his upcoming “Oppenheimer.”

Esquire’s Corey Atad is saying that a rumor is running around, within the IMAX community, that the “Oppenheimer” will be longer than “Interstellar.”

“Apparently there’s a rumour going around in IMAX projection circles that Oppenheimer will require a new platter it’s even longer than Interstellar.”

That would automatically mean that the film is close to 3 hours. If you remember, Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick had confirmed on a podcast that “Oppenheimer” would span 45 years. Purely a guess, but I bet it’ll tackle J. Robert Oppenheimer’s first days in Cambridge (1923) up to his death (1967).

The teaser for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” was released in July. The Black and White looked sumptuous. “Oppenheimer” is said to have a budget of around $100 million. It’ll also be interesting to see just how much of “Oppenheimer” will be shot in IMAX analog black and white by Nolan and DP Hoyte Van Hoytema.

Cillian Murphy will play the father of the hydrogen bomb J. Robert Oppenheimer. A man who, despite inventing the deadly weapon, wanted to place International controls on his dangerous invention, post-Hiroshima.

Filming on “Oppenheimer” had started on February 21 and ended on May 22 with a cast that includes Murphy, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh. Rami Malek and Robert Downey Jr.
