If you test your blood glucose level, it mirrors the sugar level in the bloodstream of yours in that moment. Fifteen or twenty minutes later your reading will be totally different. Exactly how one’s body reacts to many foods is different to how someone else with type two diabetes will react… everyone’s reaction to food is different. This is one reason why there’s no perfect plan you could be given when you are first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
It can be frustrating, particularly when you are first diagnosed, to understand why if you eat a similar food on different occasions, the blood sugar readout of yours differs. Allow me to share some of the reasons:
1. The quantity… until that you measure the food amount each time, there may be a variation in the amount.
2. Food combinations… the dimensions of the piece of fresh fruit will make a difference, as will whether you dined on an apple or a banana… a big difference in the glycemic index measurement of the fruit impacts how fast your sugar level will rise. Furthermore a reading will depend on which meals you ate together, eg. higher fat will deliver a climb in the post meal reading of yours although not for many hours… so it will matter whether you have baked fries or read more regular fries. Or having protein food with carbohydrates, or possibly the size variation in the protein food. Or perhaps the quantity of the carbohydrate meal.
3. Physical condition… changes like illness, menstrual cycle, a headache or maybe any body problems will affect the blood glucose levels level of yours.
4. Stress… your body responds to any variety of stress, emotional or physical, by raising your blood glucose level.
5. Alcohol… the way you use your food energy is altered when you consume alcohol, your blood sugars will likely be lowered.
6. Test your blood sugars… are these being examined at the same period pre-meal and post-meal. If the timing interval between your tests and meal actually vary by ten minutes the reading will be changed.
